What is Tritan and what is PCTG?
Tritan is a temperature-resistant PCTG, with a temperature resistance of 99-109 degrees. The representative models are TX1001, TX2001, EX401 (remarks: Eastman registered trademarks). PCTG originated from Eastman from the beginning. Traditionally, PCTG is a large-scale product name, and Tritan is a trademark registered by Eastman, which is what we call LOGO (currently the only one). It can also be called differently according to different people's purposes. For example, TX1001. For example, most people who make water cups, kettles, and baby bottles are called Tritan. If they are just ordinary items, most people are called PCTG TX1001. Tritan and PCTG have a common feature: food grade, no bisphenol A (BPA). It's just that Tritan is a bit different from ordinary PCTG. So Tritan (TX1001 TX2001 EX401) is also a type of PCTG, but the name is different. Tritan raw materials: full name: Tritan Copolyester, a new generation of copolyester developed by Eastman Company. Due to people's pursuit of quality of life and health, the market's environmental protection requirements for plastic raw materials are also increasing. For example, PC will produce BPA (bisphenol-A) after hydrolysis. Recent studies have shown that long-term intake of trace amounts of BPA by humans (including animals) is very likely to have an adverse effect on the reproductive system and disrupt the balance of sex ratio. Therefore, some countries and regions have restricted or banned PC. Manufacturers are facing environmental pressure and are looking for materials that can replace PC . It is in this market context that Eastman has developed a new generation of copolyester Tritan.
PCTG plastic raw material: a transparent plastic, an amorphous copolyester, the commonly used comonomer of PCTG is 1,4-cyclohexane dimethanol (CHDM), the full name is polyethylene terephthalate -1,4-Cyclohexane dimethanol ester. It is a polycondensation product of terephthalic acid (PTA), ethylene glycol (EG) and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM) by the transesterification method, which is 1,4 more than PET -Cyclohexane dimethanol comonomer has more ethylene glycol comonomer than PCT. Therefore, the performance of PCTG is quite different from PET and PCT. PCTG is an amorphous copolyester. With the increase of CHDM in the copolymer, the melting point decreases, the glass transition temperature increases, and the crystallinity decreases, and finally an amorphous polymer is formed. Generally, the content of CHDM in PCTG is 30%-40%.
